Login Issues
Having trouble accessing your SpotPatrol account? This guide covers the most common login problems and their solutions.
Common Login Problems
Forgot Password
For regular accounts (created with email/password):
- Go to the login page
- Click "Forgot your password?"
- Enter your email address or phone number
- Check your email or SMS for a reset code
- Enter the 6-digit code and create a new password
Important: Check your spam/junk folder if you don't see the reset email within a few minutes.
Wrong Username or Password
You can use either email or phone number to log in:
- Enter your email address OR phone number in the username field
- For phone numbers, use formats like (555) 123-4567 or +1 555 123 4567
- Make sure you're using the correct password
Double-check your login details:
- Verify caps lock isn't accidentally on
- Try typing your password in a text editor first to make sure it's correct
If you're sure your details are correct:
- You might have created your account using Google or Apple sign-in instead
- Try using the "Login with Google" or "Login with Apple" buttons
Account Created with Different Method
If you created an account with email and later want to use OAuth:
- If you use Google or Apple sign-in with the same email address, the system will automatically link your accounts
- You can then use either your original email/password OR OAuth to log in
- Both methods will access the same account and data
If you usually sign in with Google/Apple but it's not working:
- Make sure you're using the same Google or Apple account you originally signed up with
- Try the regular email/password login if you also set up a password
Apple Private Email users:
- If you chose to mask your email address during Apple sign-in, you can still receive notifications
- The masked email address will show in a hidden form in your email settings, but notifications will work normally
- You can change to your personal email address later in your profile settings
Account Verification Issues
Account Not Verified
If you created an account but can't log in, you may need to verify your account first:
Check for verification requirements:
- Try logging in - if your account isn't verified, you'll see a message
- Click "Need to verify your account?" on the login page
- Or visit the verification page directly
Email Verification
If you signed up with email:
- Check your email for a verification message from SpotPatrol
- Look in spam/junk folders
- Click the verification link or enter the 6-digit code
- If no email received, use "Send New Code" to request another
SMS Verification
If you signed up with phone number:
- Check your phone for an SMS with a verification code
- Enter the 6-digit code on the verification page
- SMS delivery can take a few minutes
- If no SMS received, use "Send New Code" to request another
Still not receiving SMS?
- Make sure you entered a US phone number (international numbers aren't supported)
- Check that you haven't replied "STOP" to previous messages from SpotPatrol
OAuth Issues (Google & Apple Sign-In)
Google Sign-In Problems
"Authentication failed" or similar errors:
- Make sure you're signed into the correct Google account in your browser
- Try signing out of all Google accounts, then sign back into the one you use for SpotPatrol
- Clear your browser cookies for Google and SpotPatrol, then try again
Google sign-in opens but nothing happens:
- Disable browser extensions (especially ad blockers) temporarily
- Try in an incognito/private browsing window
- Make sure JavaScript is enabled in your browser
Apple Sign-In Problems
"Authentication was cancelled or denied":
- This happens if you click "Cancel" during Apple's sign-in process
- Try again and complete the full Apple authentication flow
- Make sure you're signed into your Apple ID
Apple sign-in not working:
- Apple sign-in works on any browser, not just Apple devices
- If you're having issues, try using Safari browser instead
- Clear browser cache and cookies, then try again
General OAuth Troubleshooting
"OAuth authentication timed out":
- This usually means the sign-in process took too long
- Try again with a faster internet connection
- Close any unnecessary browser tabs that might be slowing things down
"Authentication server error occurred":
- This is a temporary issue on our end
- Wait a few minutes and try again
- If it persists, contact us
Browser and Technical Issues
Clear Browser Data
If login isn't working properly, try clearing your browser data:
- Clear cookies and cache for spotpatrol.com
- Disable browser extensions temporarily (especially ad blockers)
- Try incognito/private browsing mode
- Try a different browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge)
JavaScript Required
SpotPatrol requires JavaScript to function properly. Make sure:
- JavaScript is enabled in your browser settings
- Script blockers or ad blockers aren't preventing SpotPatrol from loading
- Your corporate firewall isn't blocking JavaScript execution
Mobile Considerations
If you're using a mobile browser:
- Some mobile browsers have stricter security settings
- Try using Chrome or Safari mobile instead of built-in browsers
- Make sure you're not in "private/incognito" mode unless testing
Password Requirements
If you're having trouble creating a password during signup or reset:
Password must include:
- At least 8 characters
- At least one uppercase letter
- At least one lowercase letter
- At least one number
- At least one special character
Still Can't Log In?
If none of these solutions work, contact us with:
- What happens when you try to log in (error messages, what you see)
- How you originally created your account (email/password, Google, or Apple)
- Your email address (so we can look up your account)
- Your browser and device type (Chrome on Windows, Safari on iPhone, etc.)
