Browser
Get real-time alerts that appear on your screen when appointments become available. You'll need to keep the SpotPatrol tab open and active in your browser to receive these notifications.
Setting Up Browser Notifications
Go to Notification Methods on your dashboard and expand the Additional Contact Methods section to access Browser notifications. Click Allow next to Browser notifications. Your browser will ask for permission - click Allow and you're all set.
Your notification status shows you what's happening:
- Active (green) - You're getting browser alerts
- Enabled (Safari) (blue) - Enabled but Safari might need extra setup
- Paused (yellow) - Permission granted but notifications are turned off
- Permission Denied (red) - Your browser is blocking notifications
Staying Connected
Important: You'll need to keep the SpotPatrol tab open and active in your browser to receive notifications. Unlike the installed app, browser notifications only work when you're actively on the SpotPatrol page.
Connection Status: Check the connection icon in your browser's title bar occasionally, especially if you've been idle for a while. If it shows a problem, click the refresh button next to it to reconnect, or just reload the page.
Browser Differences
Chrome and Edge work great - clear permission prompts and reliable notifications.
Firefox works similarly to Chrome, though sometimes you might need to set permissions manually.
Safari can be trickier. If notifications aren't working, go to Safari > Preferences > Websites > Notifications and make sure SpotPatrol is set to "Allow."
Trial vs Standard Service
Both trial and standard users can get browser notifications. Standard service gets them delivered a bit faster. For more information, refer to this service comparison article.
Not Getting Browser Notifications?
Here are some things to try:
Check your browser first - Make sure notifications are enabled in your dashboard and that your browser has permission. Look for that green "Active" status.
Connection issues - If you've been away from your computer for a while, check that connection icon in the title bar and refresh if needed.
Safari troubles - Go to Safari > Preferences > Websites > Notifications and confirm SpotPatrol is allowed.
Try a reset - If nothing's working, try clearing your browser data for SpotPatrol, then set up notifications again fresh.
