Unsubscribing and Resubscribing
SpotPatrol provides multiple ways to unsubscribe from notifications, and you can always resubscribe later if you change your mind.
Email Unsubscribing
Method 1: Dashboard Settings (Recommended)
The best way to control email notifications is through your SpotPatrol dashboard:
- Log in to your SpotPatrol account
- Go to your dashboard and find the "Contact Information" section
- Toggle off email notifications - Switch the email notification toggle to "Inactive"
- Save changes - Your settings are automatically saved
Using dashboard settings is preferred because you can easily turn notifications on and off whenever you want. Perfect for temporary breaks or testing different notification preferences.
Method 2: Unsubscribe Link (Permanent)
Every SpotPatrol email includes an "Unsubscribe" link at the bottom:
- Click the unsubscribe link in any SpotPatrol email
- Follow the instructions on the unsubscribe page
- Confirmation - You'll see a message confirming you've been unsubscribed
Using the unsubscribe link creates a more permanent opt-out that requires additional steps to reverse. Use dashboard settings if you want easy on/off control.
Email Resubscribing
To start receiving emails again:
If you disabled via dashboard (easy):
- Toggle email notifications back on in your Contact Information section
If you used the unsubscribe link (more steps required):
- Log in to your dashboard and go to Contact Information
- Click "Restore Email Notifications" if available, or
- Contact support if you don't see a restore option
SMS/Text Unsubscribing
Method 1: Dashboard Settings (Recommended)
The best way to control SMS notifications is through your SpotPatrol dashboard:
- Log in to your SpotPatrol account
- Go to Contact Information in your dashboard
- Toggle off SMS notifications - Switch the SMS notification toggle to "Inactive"
- Save changes - Settings save automatically
Using dashboard settings is preferred because you maintain full control and can easily toggle SMS on/off anytime. This avoids carrier-level blocks that are harder to reverse.
Method 2: Reply "STOP" (Permanent)
The quickest way to stop SMS notifications, but more permanent:
- Reply "STOP" to any SpotPatrol text message
- Confirmation - You'll receive a message confirming you're unsubscribed
- Complete block - This stops ALL SMS from SpotPatrol, even if your dashboard shows SMS as "Active"
Replying "STOP" creates a carrier-level block that SpotPatrol cannot override. Your dashboard may still show SMS as "Active," but no texts will be delivered until you opt back in. Use dashboard settings for easier control.
SMS Resubscribing
If you disabled via dashboard (easy):
- Toggle SMS notifications back on in your Contact Information section
If you replied "STOP" (more steps required):
- Reply "START" to re-enable SMS from SpotPatrol, or
- Contact your carrier to remove the SMS block
- Note: It may take a few minutes for the opt-in to take effect
Browser Notification Management
Browser notifications are controlled through your browser settings and SpotPatrol dashboard:
Disabling Browser Notifications
From SpotPatrol dashboard:
- Go to Contact Information
- Toggle off browser notifications
From your browser:
- Chrome: Settings > Privacy and Security > Site Settings > Notifications
- Firefox: Preferences > Privacy & Security > Permissions > Notifications
- Safari: Preferences > Websites > Notifications
Re-enabling Browser Notifications
- Enable in your browser settings (see above)
- Toggle on in your SpotPatrol dashboard
- Refresh the page to reconnect
Account vs. Notification Management
Unsubscribing from notifications doesn't cancel your SpotPatrol service. Your account remains active and you can:
- Log in anytime to check for appointments manually
- View your Notice Log to see what alerts would have been sent
- Resubscribe to notifications whenever you want
- Continue using all SpotPatrol features
If you want to cancel your service entirely, see our Cancel & Reactivate guide.
Multiple Contact Methods
You can unsubscribe from some notification methods while keeping others active:
- Email only - Stop emails but keep SMS and browser notifications
- SMS only - Stop texts but keep email and browser notifications
- Selective management - Choose exactly which methods you want active
This lets you customize your notification experience without losing all alerts.
Troubleshooting Unsubscribe Issues
Still receiving emails after unsubscribing?
- Check that you clicked the unsubscribe link in a recent SpotPatrol email
- Verify your email address is correct in your dashboard
- Contact support if emails continue after 24 hours
SMS still coming after replying STOP?
- This is very rare - the STOP mechanism is managed by your carrier
- Try replying "STOP" again to a recent message
- Contact your mobile carrier if messages continue
Can't find unsubscribe options?
- Log in to your dashboard and go to Contact Information
- Look for notification toggles next to each contact method
